The Tale of Two Kings: A Reflection on Luke 2 As we gather tomorrow to reflect on the profound message of Luke 2, we delve into a tale of two kings—one earthly and one divine. This passage juxtaposes the reign of Caesar Augustus, the Roman emperor, with the humble birth of Jesus Christ, the King of Kings. Caesar Augustus was a ruler of immense power and influence. His decree for a census brought Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem, fulfilling the prophecy of the Messiah's birthplace. Augustus represents the epitome of worldly authority, commanding armies and shaping the fate of nations. In stark contrast, Jesus Christ entered the world in the most unassuming manner. Born in a manger, surrounded by animals, His arrival was heralded not by royal fanfare but by angels to shepherds in the fields. Jesus' kingship is marked by humility, love, and a mission to bring salvation to all. This juxtaposition invites us to reflect on the nature of true kingship. While Caesar's power was rooted in earthly dominion, Jesus' reign is eternal, characterized by grace and truth. His kingdom is not of this world, yet it transforms hearts and lives in ways that no earthly empire can. As we meditate on this passage, let us consider the implications of these two kings in our own lives. Are we seeking power and prestige, or are we following the example of Christ, embracing humility and service? The birth of Jesus challenges us to rethink our values and priorities, inviting us to align our lives with His teachings. Join us tomorrow as we explore this powerful narrative and its relevance to our journey of faith. May we be inspired by the humble King who came to serve and save, and may His love guide us in all that we do. Service is at 2 PM as always, live via Google Meet and at St. Martin of Tours in Omaha, Nebraska. The sermon notes for the message have been graciously forwarded to us by Reverend Vossen and have been uploaded to the blog. The audio portion will be made available as soon as possible. Christ's best this holiday season, Jan Welch, Administrative Coordinator Covenant of Grace Ministry & Fellowship
