Stop Everything To Hear God’s Word!

Today at Covenant of Grace, we gathered around a powerful moment in Scripture--1 Samuel 9:27–10:18—a passage where God interrupts the ordinary to speak destiny, identity, and direction into the life of His people. In the Common English Bible, Samuel’s instruction to Saul is simple yet life‑altering: “Stay here a moment, so I can tell you God’s word.”

That single invitation carries the weight of the entire message we heard today: Stop everything to hear God’s Word.
In a world overflowing with noise, hurry, and distraction, this passage reminds us that God still speaks—clearly, purposefully, and personally. But hearing Him requires something from us. It calls for pause. It calls for attention. It calls for a willingness to let God interrupt our plans so He can reveal His.

As Samuel anoints Saul and unfolds God’s purposes, we see what happens when a person stops long enough to listen: identity is clarified, calling is confirmed, and the Spirit of the Lord moves with power. The same God who spoke then still speaks now, inviting us to slow down, lean in, and receive His Word with open hearts.

This week’s message challenged us to do exactly that—to create sacred space in our busy lives, to silence competing voices, and to allow God’s Word to shape our steps.
