Weekend Recap: God's Testimony and Rahab's Faith

Covenant of Grace Ministry & Fellowship

Though our audio recordings from this past weekend's services were unfortunately lost, the manuscripts remain—and with them, the powerful truths we explored together. Here's a summary of the key teachings to remind us, encourage us, and stir our hearts to respond.

Sunday Worship: Testify of the Goodness of God

Text: 1 John 5:9-12 (CEB)

The Main Theme

God has taken the stand as the ultimate eyewitness. The question isn't whether His testimony exists—it's whether we'll receive it.

Key Highlights

What Testimony Is
  • Testimony (martyria in Greek) is declaring what you've experienced firsthand—the root of our word "martyr."
  • Human testimony convinces us in courtrooms daily through eyewitness accounts. How much greater is God's testimony about His Son?
What God Testified Three movements in the passage:
  1. God testifies — He is not a distant observer but the eyewitness
  2. We receive — Believing is receiving the testimony within us; rejecting it makes God a liar
  3. Life results — The one who has the Son has life; the line is drawn at the Son, not religion
The Power of Our Testimony
  • When heard: Energizes faith, challenges limitations, replaces hopelessness with expectation
  • When spoken: Strengthens personal faith, anchors conviction, silences doubt
  • When lived: Equips us to resist evil and bear obedient witness to the world

Application Challenge

Every believer has a testimony—not just conversion stories, but ongoing encounters with God's goodness. Identify one specific act of God's faithfulness this week and speak it aloud: to God in thanks, and to one other person.
As the closing illustration reminded us: "The witness stand is now yours. Someone in your world is waiting to hear what you've seen. Go testify of the goodness of God."

Sunday Teaching: Rahab—Faith That Transforms a Life and a Legacy

Texts.: Joshua 2:8-17; Joshua 6; Hebrews 11:31; James 2:25

The Main Theme

God delights in redeeming unlikely people in unlikely places for His unstoppable purposes. He sees individuals, rescues individuals, and rewrites stories.

Key Highlights

1. Rahab's Confession of Faith (Joshua 2:8-11)
  • Before Israel crossed the Jordan or Jericho's walls fell, Rahab believed.
  • She heard what God had done and responded with faith before she ever saw it.
  • Key insight: Faith begins with hearing God's works, acknowledges His authority, and moves us to align with God's people.
2. Rahab's Courage and Covenant (Joshua 2:12-17)
  • She protected the spies and asked for mercy, risking her life to identify with God's people.
  • The scarlet cord symbolized her trust in God's promise.
  • Key insight: Faith expresses itself through obedience and allegiance.
3. Rahab's Deliverance and New Beginning (Joshua 6:22-25)
  • God didn't just rescue Rahab from destruction—he rescued her into the community of His people.
  • Her past did not define her future.
4. Rahab's Legacy of Faith (Hebrews 11:31; James 2:25)
  • The New Testament honors her as a model of living faith.
  • Her faith was active, not passive.
  • Grace rewrote her entire story—she became part of the lineage of Jesus Christ.

Reflection Questions
  1. What step of faith is God calling you to take?
  2. Where do you need to trust God before you see the outcome?
  3. Who needs to hear that God can rewrite their story?

Taking It Home

Together both messages converged on a central truth: God's testimony meets our response.
On Sunday worship, we learned that God has given us His ultimate testimony about eternal life in His Son. On Sunday teaching, we saw Rahab demonstrate what happens when someone receives that testimony with faith and acts on it.

  • Hear God's testimony → Like Rahab, receive what He has done
  • Believe before you see → Trust before the walls fall
  • Speak what you've seen → Share the goodness of God with others
  • Live out your faith → Allow your story to become part of His redemptive plan

May these truths anchor us this week and compel us to testify of the goodness of God wherever we go.

If you missed any part of the service or want to revisit these teachings, reach out to our office. The manuscripts remain available for study and reflection. Otherwise, Pastor Vossen will attach them to this post for your perusal.
