Here are some notes I took from a CGMF bible study we considered today in my Neighborhood Group, as we steered away from the current lesson in James. I have been considering our Identfication with Jesus of late, and these were some of the items we discussed from the scriptures.
In what way did Jesus mention or identify himself the most as? Son of Man at least 80 times. OT references: Daniel 7:13,14 " Son of Man " presented in Aramaic and Hebrew OT Scriptures. When Jesus used this title it immediately meant he was claiming to be the Messiah to the Hebrew children. Matthew 8:20-Humility as the Son of Man where he is described as a wanderer. Matthew 20:28- Humility revealed in servanthood. Matthew 16:27- Glory is shown as he says the Son of Man will come in His Father's Glory. Paradox- Son of man representing frailty and weakness. As well, one who would be a ruler of all nations. God-Man, Humanity-Deity. Child born as Emmanuel, God with us. Isaiah 9:6- Revelation of the Mighty God, through the gift of the Son of Man. Luke 3 in Jesus Genealogy: Son of Adam, Son of God. 1 Corinthians 15:45- Paul bestows upon him the title as The Last Adam. Here he is identified as a first member of the human race, he is human and is the Last in the sense that sin and frailty were nailed on the cross. It all came upon Jesus. He terminated sin and the problems associated with the curse. The Last Adam settled the question concerning who the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world was. His life, His death, His resurrection has all become a wonderful great gift of hope for all humanity. ( From Reverend Vossen's Neighborhood Fellowship Group )
